Written Announcements:
PROJECT UPDATE
a) Public Bidding for Pumping Station Safety and Security
Improvements, District Project 8406
District staff has identified safety and security concerns at several pumping stations.
These stations have obsolete, inoperable or nonexistent video surveillance, fire alarm and
intrusion alarm systems. A lack of pumping station security results in liability exposure to
the District.
This project will add new or upgrade existing video surveillance, fire alarm and /or
intrusion alarm systems at the highest priority pumping stations. The most critical stations
have been identified as the Martinez stations, Moraga, and Orinda Crossroads.
The project will be advertised on April 8 and 15. The bids will be opened on April 29, 2014.
The construction cost is currently estimated at $280,000. More information will be
presented when the Board is asked to approve the construction contract on May 15, 2014.
COMMUNICATION SERVICES
b) Central San has Fans
Last week, the Water Reclamation Department of the City of Wilson, North Carolina,
contacted Communication Services with a request to duplicate one of our "flushable"
wipes brochures. The department treats 14 million gallons per day for a population of
50,000 and is responsible for the enforcement of wastewater ordinances. Their request
was granted.
On the same day, Communication Services Manager Michael Scahill spoke to "Friends of
Orinda Creek" as part of the District's Speakers Bureau. What was scheduled to be a 30-
minute presentation on Central San turned into a two -hour, decidedly upbeat dialogue
with the group, many of whom brought past issues of the Pipeline newsletter for
reference. Group members had high praise for the District's collection and construction
crews, the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, education programs and
pollution prevention efforts.

at this year's celebration of Earth Day at the John Muir Estate in Martinez on Saturday,
April 26, 2014. The display will focus on pollution prevention and what the public can do
to keep our homes, streets and waterways free of pollutants.
