HomeMy WebLinkAbout05.a.1) General Manager Written Announcementss Board Meeting of April 3, 2014 Written Announcements: PROJECT UPDATE a) Public Bidding for Pumping Station Safety and Security Improvements, District Project 8406 District staff has identified safety and security concerns at several pumping stations. These stations have obsolete, inoperable or nonexistent video surveillance, fire alarm and intrusion alarm systems. A lack of pumping station security results in liability exposure to the District. This project will add new or upgrade existing video surveillance, fire alarm and /or intrusion alarm systems at the highest priority pumping stations. The most critical stations have been identified as the Martinez stations, Moraga, and Orinda Crossroads. The project will be advertised on April 8 and 15. The bids will be opened on April 29, 2014. The construction cost is currently estimated at $280,000. More information will be presented when the Board is asked to approve the construction contract on May 15, 2014. COMMUNICATION SERVICES b) Central San has Fans Last week, the Water Reclamation Department of the City of Wilson, North Carolina, contacted Communication Services with a request to duplicate one of our "flushable" wipes brochures. The department treats 14 million gallons per day for a population of 50,000 and is responsible for the enforcement of wastewater ordinances. Their request was granted. On the same day, Communication Services Manager Michael Scahill spoke to "Friends of Orinda Creek" as part of the District's Speakers Bureau. What was scheduled to be a 30- minute presentation on Central San turned into a two -hour, decidedly upbeat dialogue with the group, many of whom brought past issues of the Pipeline newsletter for reference. Group members had high praise for the District's collection and construction crews, the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, education programs and pollution prevention efforts. c) District to Celebrate "Take Your Child to Work Day" — Thursday, April 24, 2014 The District will celebrate "Take Your Child to Work Day" on Thursday, April 24, 2014. Sons and daughters of Central San staff of all ages will be welcome. That morning, children ages 11 and older will be given guided tours of the treatment plant, lab and Written Announcements April 3, 2014 Page 2 of 2 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility. There will also be demonstrations of the vehicles used by the District's Collection crews throughout the morning. The two events will be held between 9 a.m. and noon. During the afternoon, staff is welcome to give their children personal tours in their work areas. d) District to Celebrate Earth Day - Saturday, April 26, 2014 The Communication Services Division and staff volunteers will staff a Central San booth at this year's celebration of Earth Day at the John Muir Estate in Martinez on Saturday, April 26, 2014. The display will focus on pollution prevention and what the public can do to keep our homes, streets and waterways free of pollutants. Central San has taken part in Annual Earth Day Celebrations for more than 20 years. HUMAN RESOURCES e) Total Compensation and Benefits Statements to be Distributed to All Employees Staff recommended and the Administration Committee concurred with the dissemination of an annual total compensation report to all District employees. Employees will be provided with this information in order to ensure that they understand the total value of their employment, above and beyond their base salary. Attached is the template listing all items of compensation. It will be customized for individual employees and provided to them with their April 30, 2014 paycheck. Going forward, employees will be provided with this report annually in February for the preceding calendar year. To help you more fully understand the value of your total compensation earned over the past calendar year, the following statement has been provided for your information.
