Call Meeting to Order Chair Causey called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. 2. Public Comments 1► reyn 3. Expenditures a. Review Expenditures (Item 3.b. in Board Binder) COMMITTEE ACTION: Reviewed and recommended Board approval. *4. Risk Management a. Review Loss Control Report and discuss outstanding claims Safety and Risk Management Administrator Shari Deutsch provided updates on the various claims listed in the Loss Control Report. She also distributed the quarterly Legal Expenditure Summary report (attached). Finance Committee Action Summary January 21, 2014 Page 2 COMMITTEE ACTION: Reviewed the reports. b. Discuss new claims, if any COMMITTEE ACTION: None. 5. Old Business a. Review staff's response to questions regarding the expenditures at the previous meeting: • Is it legally permissible to publish retiree Medicare costs in the Expenditures as is currently done? • Can multiple checks being sent to one household be combined into one mailing? COMMITTEE ACTION: Reviewed staff's response. Recommended that expenditure listing continue to list retiree names and Medicare reimbursements continue to be sent out separately. 6. Discuss National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) 2014 Financial Survey Program Chair Causey stated that he wanted to give staff advance notice in case they wished to participate in the survey. Responses are requested by April, and they are used significantly by NACWA in projecting costs and lobbying. COMMITTEE ACTION: Discussed the Survey Program. 7. Announcements a. Next meeting scheduled for January 27, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. (This meeting was subsequently cancelled. The next scheduled meeting is now February 11, 2014 at 3.00 pm.) b. General Manager Roger Bailey announced that the Board rate presentation has been postponed from January 23, 2014 to February 6, 2014. COMMITTEE ACTION: Received the announcements. 8. Suggestions for future agenda items Finance Manager Thea Vassallo asked if there was a need for further discussion at the Committee level following her comprehensive report to the Board on Unfunded Actuarial Accrued Liability (UAAL) at its January 9, Finance Committee Action Summary January 21, 2014 Page 3 2014 meeting. General Manager Roger Bailey suggested that a similar report would be given at the Board level every year. 9.
