Bailey Administration /Human Resources General Manager REVIEWED AND RECOMMENDED FOR BOARD ACTION: T. O'Malley — Human Resources Manager IrNt W U — R. Bailey General Manage ISSUE: Board of Directors' approval is required for the deletion, addition, and the filling of positions. RECOMMENDATION: Delete a vacant Assistant Engineer position (S73, $7,418- $8,974) and add and authorize the filling of a Maintenance Planner position (G71, $7,030 - $8,512). FINANCIAL IMPACTS: This action will result in an annual cost savings of $10,279 which takes into account salary, benefit, and pension costs at the maximum steps of the salary ranges. ALTERNATIVES /CONSIDERATIONS: Do not delete, add, and authorize the filling of the positions. If this action is not approved, the newly developed Asset Management program within the Capital Projects Division will not be staffed effectively. BACKGROUND: The newly developed Asset Management program within the Capital Projects Division has evaluated its staffing needs and has determined that that there is an immediate need for one Maintenance Planner position and there is no longer a need for the vacant Assistant Engineer position. The Asset Management Program is in need of a position to assist the Senior Engineer overseeing the program by performing a variety of field and office related tasks related to asset management which includes but is not limited to, asset data information gathering (equipment tagging, spare parts records, and asset locations); reviewing maintenance /planning records, and other related duties . Although this classification has historically been housed within the Maintenance Division of the Operations Department, the Maintenance Planner classification is the most appropriate classification to perform the aforementioned duties. As this action results in no financial impact, this matter is being sent directly to the Board without convening a Human Resources Committee meeting.
