HomeMy WebLinkAbout06.a.3) General Manager Written AnnouncementsBoard Meeting of September 19, 2013 Written Announcements: a) Recent Staff Promotion Staff Updates Chris Johnsen has been promoted to Maintenance Supervisor in the Operations/ Collection System Operations Department, effective September 3, 2013. CSDA Transparency Certificate b) District Applies for Transparency Certificate of Excellence Offered by California Special Districts Association (CSDA) On May 16, 2013 it was announced that the District would be applying for the California Special Districts Association (CSDA) Leadership Foundation's "District Transparency Certificate of Excellence." The certification was created in an effort to promote transparency in the operations and governance of Special Districts, and to provide an opportunity for Special Districts to showcase their efforts. There are three main areas to be addressed: basic requirements, website requirements, and outreach /best practices requirements. The Secretary of the District has completed the application and submitted it to the CSDA. A copy of the complete application and supporting documentation is available from the Secretary of the District's Office upon request. The Board will be informed once CSDA processes the application. Source Control c) Findings from Pretreatment Compliance Inspection The District's Source Control Program is periodically reviewed by the Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) or their contractors to ensure compliance with the federal pretreatment regulations. Two levels of review are conducted: Pretreatment Compliance Audit (PCA) and Pretreatment Compliance Inspection (PCI), with a PCA being more comprehensive. The last PCI was completed on March 25 -26, 2013 with State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) staff participating. The PCI report was received on July 8, 2013, which contained nine findings including five Requirements and four Recommendations. Source Control staff had concerns about four of the five Requirements which were summarized in the response letter submitted on September 6, Written Announcements September 19 , 2013 Page 2 of 3 2013. Source Control staff initiated modifications to documents and procedures to address the findings, and they continue to work with RWQCB, SWRCB and USEPA staff to operate a pretreatment program that meets , or exceeds, the federal pretreatment standards. Out -of -State Conferences d ) Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Employees to Attend National HHW Conference in St. Paul, Minnesota – September 23 -27, 2013 From September 23 -27, 2013, the 28 th Annual N orth American Hazardous Materials Management Association (NAHMMA) Hazardous Materials Management Conference will take place in St. Paul, Minnesota. Household Hazardous Waste Supervisor David Wyatt and Senior Household Hazardous Waste Technician Jesse folk s will be attending. The NAHMMA Conference provides the opportunity to participate in workshops, technical sessions, facility tours, view exhibitions, and network with program representatives from around the nation. The cost of the conference was includ ed in the Fiscal Year 2013 -14 budget. e ) Attendance at the NEOGOV Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada – October 1 -4 , 2013 From October 1 -4, 2013, Human Resources Analyst Judy Rivers will attend the NEOGOV Annual Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. NEOGOV is t he applicant tracking software that is currently utilized by the Human Resources Division for all recruitment related activities. Topics that will be covered during the conference include, but are not limited to, updates on the latest features of NEOGOV; s ystem administration; testing best practices; streamlining the online application process; onboarding new hires; and roundtable discussions on HR topics/challenges The cost of this conference is included in the Fiscal Year 2013 -14 Budget. f ) Attendance at the Adobe ColdFusion Summit 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada – October 2 3 -25 , 2013 Carl Von Stetten will be attending the Adobe ColdFusion Summit that will take place October 23 -25 , 2013, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Adobe ColdFusion is the application server used t o provide the Geographic Data Integration (GDI) web interface tool used at the District. This solution provides a variety of information to District staff in one central location. Attendance at this Summit will provide Carl an opportunity to network with and learn from other developer professionals. Attendance at the Adobe ColdFusion Summit was included in the fiscal year 2013 -14 Engineering Department Training Budget. Written Announcements September 19, 2013 Page 3 of 3 g) Attendance at the American Records Managers Association (ARMA) Annual Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada — October 28 -30, 2013 From October 28 -30, 2013, Assistant to the Secretary of the District Donna Anderson will attend the American Records Managers Association (ARMA) Annual Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. ARMA is the leading organization that provides opportunities to attend conferences specifically related to Records Management. The conference will include four education sessions on topics such as electronic records management, software innovations, new technologies, demonstrations, and best practices. The cost of this conference is included in the Fiscal Year 2013 -14 Budget.
