Awards and Commendations
f) Collection System Operations (CSO) Division Places Second in its
Quest for California Water Environment Association (CWEA) State
Award for Collection System Operation of the Year
After being awarded the 2012 Large Treatment Plant of the Year as well as the 2012
Large Collection System Operation of the Year by the San Francisco Bay Section of the
CWEA, the District automatically was placed in the running for the same awards at the
State level. Awards were announced on April 19, 2013 at the CWEA Annual Conference
in Palm Springs. As previously reported, the District received the award for Large
Treatment Plant of the Year (greater than 20 million gallons per day), which award was
presented to Board President Nejedly at the May 2, 2013 Board meeting.
Staff also had high hopes of winning the Large Collection System Operation of the Year
award. The competition was fierce, and the District lost out by the slimmest of margins to
the City of San Diego. The District congratulates San Diego on its achievement. At the
same time, congratulations are due the District's CSO Division for its dedication and hard
work. Being considered for such a prestigious honor is no small feat.
