Environmental Services e) Update on Caffe Classico Source Control Issues Caffe Classico disconnected the process drain connection to the District's system on Wednesday, 2/27/13, by capping the pipes in the sampling manhole. Environmental Compliance Inspector Jeremy Talarico confirmed this disconnection, sealed the caps with evidence tape, and took photos of the condition. The effluent pipe from the interceptor that would discharge to the sampling manhole will be sealed as part of the plumbing modifications underway to complete the zero discharge operations. Equipment to pump the process wastewater from the interceptor to an on -site above ground storage tank is being installed with a target to complete by 3/1/13. Caffe Classico ceased production on 2/27/13 to enable the modifications to be completed without needing to manage process wastewater in the system. Production is not scheduled to start until the modifications are completed (3/4/13 if the 3/1/13 target date is met). The first $5,000 penalty assessment from Caffe Classico was received on 2/27/13. Caffe Classico is in compliance with the settlement agreement elements that had effective dates of 2/28/13 and 3/1/13. The District's Environmental Compliance Section staff will continue to oversee the operations under the Zero Discharge Permit and to make sure Caffe Classico complies with the other settlement agreement elements.
