Sustainable Farm Proposal
• CoCo San Sustainable Farm is non - profit organization
partnered with Earth Island Institute and led by
Dr. Carolyn Phinney (Executive Director) and
Bethallyn Black (Horticulturist & Operations Manager)
• Utilize entire 33 -acre site for Demonstration Garden with
produce raised for area Schools and Food Bank
— 5 acres of Row Crops
— Community Garden in Planter Boxes
— Cultivation of Alfalfa (Cash Crop) on 15 -20 acres
— Dwarf Citrus Trees on East Perimeter to serve as buffer
— Herb Garden
— Training Plaza
— Misc. Improvements including Parking Area, Office Structure,
Shed

at $200,000 for the first 15- months
• Initial CCCSD Donation

Imhoff Drive Dust Testing
• Concern has been expressed about the possibility of
toxic materials being present in the road dust on Imhoff
Drive and making its way into the Farm's crops
• Samples of Kiewit area road dust were collected from
the County Quarry road sweeper and analyzed by a local
laboratory.
• The samples were analyzed for the California
Administrative Manual's list of 17 heavy metals:
Antimony, Arsenic, Barium, Beryllium, Cadmium,
Chromium, Cobalt, Copper, Lead, Mercury,
Molybdenum, Nickel, Selenium, Silver, Thallium,
Vanadium, and Zinc.
In Closing...
• Consider a Non - Binding Conceptual
Endorsement of the Sustainable Farm
Proposal.
• If endorsed:
— Direct Staff to work with the proponents to develop
Project Description and Budget, environmental
documents and submission of an agricultural Land
Use Permit.
— Direct Staff to bring the Project Proposal back to
the Board for Final Consideration at a Later Date.
