MT. VIEW SANITARY DISTRICT
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION NO. 1324 -2012
IN THE MATTER OF RECOGNIZING, MARIO M. MENESINI,
FOR TWENTY (20) YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE
TO CENTRAL CONTRA COSTA SANITARY DISTRICT
THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF MT. VIEW SANITARY DISTRICT DOES HEREBY
RESOLVE:
Whereas, elected to the Board of Directors of the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District ( CCCSD)
in 1992, he has served as its Board President four times, 1996, 1997, 2002 and 2006, and has
served on a wide variety of Board Committees including Capital Projects, Hazardous Waste,
Human Resources, Recycled Water, and the Outreach Committee; and
Whereas, born and raised in Martinez, Dr. Menesini holds a Bachelor's Degree in Geology and
Zoology from St. Mary's College; a Master's Degree in Marine Biology from University of the
Pacific; and a Doctorate in Science Education from U.C. Berkeley; and
Whereas, throughout his tenure on the CCCSD Board, two of Dr. Menesini's chief interests have
been and remain education of the young and public outreach to the community; and
Whereas, his local volunteer efforts include service with the John Muir Memorial Association,
U.S. Navy Concord Arms Depot Restoration Advisory Board, Environmental Alliance, and
Alhambra Creek Watershed Restoration Committee; and
Whereas, he is the co- founder and Executive Director of the Environmental Alliance — a
forum of environmental professionals — and is former Director of National Science
Foundation Institute for Molecular Biology, U.C. Berkeley; and
Whereas, he was instrumental in the partnering with Mt. View Sanitary District for the
Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility ( HHWCF); and
Whereas, discussion about the creation of a permanent HHWCF commenced in April 1995
and the majority of the initial work for support of the Household Hazardous Waste Facility's
construction occurred in 1995; and
Whereas, on June 8, 1995 Mt. View Sanitary District Resolution No. 867 -95 announced
formal support of the Permanent Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility; and
Whereas, Central Contra Costa Sanitary District partnered with Mt. View Sanitary District in 1997
to build and commence operation of the first permanent Household Hazardous Waste Collection
Facility in Contra Costa County; and
Whereas, when leftover paint, pesticides, used oil, pool chemicals, or other products containing
potentially dangerous materials are thrown away, they become " hazardous wastes" potentially
damaging to the environment; and
Whereas, hazardous waste generated by residents and businesses can reach our waterways
through runoff, sewer spills, storm drains, and landfills, can pollute our local water environment
and the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility helps prevent this pollution through reuse,
recycling, and proper disposal of hazardous waste; and
Whereas, in its first 10 years, the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility accepted and
kept more than 16 million pounds of hazardous waste from reaching the environment; and
Whereas, the facility has collected over 26 million pounds of hazardous waste and served more
than 342,000 participants since opening in 1997; and
Whereas, hazardous waste generated from households in the central Contra Costa County area
is accepted at no charge when delivered to the facility; and
Whereas, to minimize hazardous waste disposal to the environment, the Household Hazardous
Waste Collection Facility offers a Reuse Program that allows residents and businesses to take
usable products such as unused paint, automotive products, and household cleaners at no
charge; and
Whereas, the Board of Directors of the Mt. View Sanitary District, joined by the District's
staff, communicate to Dr. Menesini our sincere congratulations and best wishes upon his
retirement.
NOW THEREFORE IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED:
1) Our environment is a precious resource, and CCCSD is in the business of protecting it.

and thank and congratulate him on his 20 years of service and dedication to education,
