Carolyn Knight has been promoted to Engineering Support Supervisor in the Capital Projects Division effective October 25, 2012. Out -of -State Travel b) District Staff to Travel Out of State to Evaluate Nutrient Removal Processes Two District employees will be traveling out of state to visit various wastewater treatment plants that are conducting pilot scale and full -scale nutrient removal studies. Senior Engineer Dana Lawson and Assistant Engineer Samantha Engelage will travel to Sturbridge, Massachusetts; Arlington, Virginia; Hampton Roads Sanitation District in Virginia Beach, Virginia; and DC Water in Washington, DC from October 30, 2012 to November 8, 2012. The technologies being studied include Mainstream Anammox, Conventional Biological Nutrient Removal, Integrated Fixed -Film Activated Sludge, 5- Stage Bardenpho, Sidestream Cyanide Removal, BioMag, and others. Staff is evaluating these technologies to determine the process alternatives that may be applicable for use at the District if nutrient removal is required in the future. It is likely that pilot plant testing of appropriate technologies will be conducted at the District starting in 2013. Travel expenses for these site visits are included in the Treatment Plant Planning project budget.
