Hello, my name is Allen Grengs, and I attend New Leaf: A Sustainable Living
Collaborative, in Martinez California. I have an interest in the CoCo Sustainable Farm. I
think it would be a very good way to use all that recycled water and unused land. I think
that the idea of a free salad bar in schools would be a great way to get more nutrition to
us kids. I also want to learn about the process that recycled water goes through before it is
actually ready to be used for growing food. I think it is very interesting that water can go
from being so dirty to being clean enough to grow food with.I would like to learn about
this. I think that a sustainable farm for Contra Costa County would be a great way to be
able to get outside and also make a huge difference.
Sincerely,
Allen Grengs

Dear Board of CCCSD,
Hello, my name is Duwana and I am a New Leaf Student from Martinez Ca. I am
interested in the CoCo Sustainable Farm because it shows that we can change
something unpleasant in a sustainable way. Not only would we be making part of
our county more beautiful we are demonstrating sustainable change for our
peers to see. What draws me most to this experience is the idea of something I
did would benefit another person's life. The fresh beneficial food that we would
be growing would go to a food bank for someone that does not have enough
food. This means something to me because I have friends and family that need
that type of support and knowing I did something to support them would really
make me feel proud. In New Leaf, our class is involved in place -based learning,
which means we use the environment to learn the subjects we need to get our
diploma. We do projects that help support our local communities all the time. So
as you can see this would make my peers feel proud of themselves and I could
see their self esteem being built with every project we do so imagine how'd they
feel after this one.
Sincerely,

Dear Contra Costa County Sanitary District,
I'm Briar Lawson and I go to New Leaf: A Sustainable Living Collaborative. I'm
writing you today because of my interest in the sustainable farm that Carolen Phinney is
trying to start. I would love the opportunity to work on this project. I believe that this
farm would not only bring the community together, but help schools too better nutrition.
A healthy lunch at school is key to learning. This farm would help provide a free salad
bar, so that kids would be properly fed during the day. This is only one of the many
benefits to this amazing project.
Thank you for you time and consideration. I hope that soon we will begin this project, so
we may continue to spread the green movement around the bay.
Sincerely,
r

Dear Board of CCCSD,
I am writing you, because I feel like this Living Laboratory /Garden would really help out
a lot of schools in the Bay Area. It would help the community in so many ways by
feeding the kids at school healthy food and hopefully reduce the smell of the sanitary
plant. The garden is a project I really want to help in. I love being outside, love planting
plants, watching them grow, and knowing that my friends and I did this. I really want to
help the community grow and come together.
Sincerely,
Daniel Ryan
