Gary Rathunde, Associate Engineer in the Capital Projects Division Treatment Plant Program, will retire on October 5, 2012 after 10 years of service. Liz Charlton, Land Surveyor in the Environmental Services Division, is expected to retire on December 14, 2012 after 25 years of service. Out -of -State Travel b) Environmental Compliance Superintendent Tim Potter Presents Session on Federal Dental Amalgam Rule at Tri -State Seminar in Primm, Nevada Environmental Compliance Superintendent Tim Potter was requested to present a session on the Federal Dental Amalgam Rule at the Tri -State Seminar in Primm, Nevada on September 27, 2012. Primm is located on the Stateline border between California and Nevada on Interstate Highway 15. The Tri -State Seminar is hosted by California Water Environment Association and similar associations for Nevada and Arizona, as well as professional associations of water purveyors. Since Mr. Potter only attended the conference on the day of his presentation, he was not required to register for the conference. Travel expenses were approximately $300. c) Out -of -State Travel by District Staff Three District employees will be traveling out of state to inspect the manufacture of a new Vactor 2100 Series combination hydro vacuum sewer cleaning truck. Superintendent Don Rhoads, Maintenance Supervisor Ed Silva, and Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance Supervisor Nick Wright will travel to the Vactor Manufacturing Plant in Streator, Illinois, on October 17 and will return on October 19, 2012. Purchase of the new hydro vacuum sewer cleaning truck was included in the 2011 -12 Equipment Budget. Delivery of the Vactor truck is anticipated in December 2012. Travel for inspection of the truck was included in the 2012 -13 Collection System Operations Training and Travel Budget. Written Announcements October 4, 2012 Page 2 of 2 Project Update d) Public Bidding on Seismic Improvements for Headquarters Office Building, District Project 8226 Seismic Improvements for the Headquarters Office Building (HOB), District Project 8226, is scheduled to advertise for construction on October 9 and 14, 2012. This project brings HOB up to current seismic performance standards and also includes general improvements to the building. Seismic work includes column cover plates and strengthening the beam - column connections at each floor level. General improvements include new carpeting, painting, ADA improvements, upgrade of network cabling, recycled water to restrooms and miscellaneous other improvements. Staff will be relocated for a period of 8 -10 months. Public counters, with all their respective support staff, will remain near the treatment plant. Other staff will be relocated to a nearby, leased office building. The engineer's estimate for construction of the seismic improvements is $3.8 million, and for the general improvements is $1.7 million. The total engineer's construction cost estimate for the project is $5.5 million.
