The Cost of IPM
• Anecdotally, agencies experience an initial
increase in cost, but that is reduced over time.
• The level of service is different.
• Problems are fixed, rather than deferred by
the use of pesticides.
What Will the IPM Policy Do?
• Require staff and appropriate contractors
to comply with the policy
• Empower our Purchasing staff to hire
pest control operators that use IPM
• Designate an IPM Coordinator to oversee
the implementation of the policy
• Create an IPM Committee comprised of
internal representatives
• Require annual reporting
• Provide IPM Training

Why Adopt an IPM Policy?
• It will protect people and the environment.
• It's what we tell our customers to do.
• The Municipal Regional Permit required all
Bay Area cities to adopt IPM policies.
• More stringent toxicity standards for plant
effluent are coming.
• The District would continue to be a leader in
the wastewater industry.
In Conclusion
Staff recommends that the Board adopt the
proposed IPM Policy.
