HomeMy WebLinkAbout07.a.5) Discuss Fall 2011 Ribbon Cutting ceremony for CSOD, DP 82087a. Central Contra Costa Sanitary District July 29, 2011 TO: HONORABLE BOARD OF DIRECTORS FROM: MICHAEL SCAHILL, COMMUNICATION SERVICES MANAGER SUBJECT: PROPOSED RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY FOR COLLECTION SYSTEM OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT (CSOD) FACILITY. A proposal for a Ribbon Cutting ceremony for the new CSOD facility was brought to the May 25, 2011 Outreach Committee for review. A suggestion was made that two separate events might be appropriate: first, the ribbon cutting on a weekday morning for City of Walnut Creek and County elected officials and staff, as well as State representatives. Second, an Open House held on a Saturday afternoon for District staff, their families and the residential neighbors of the new facility. Both Chair Menesini and Member Williams agreed that a ribbon cutting and open house would be fitting. Member Williams suggested that the event focus on the benefits of the new facility, such as improved efficiency, a better platform for community service, its status as a green building, the first green roof in Walnut Creek, and an emergency operations center. For the ribbon cutting, preliminary plans call for scheduling to be determined by mid - September for an October event. RSVPs to mailed invitations will determine who will attend and who may speak at the ribbon cutting and dedication. Following the ribbon cutting, tours of the facility will be offered. As it will be a late morning event, refreshments will be no more than coffee, juice and pastries. The Open House for CCCSD staff and families and residents from the immediate area would be scheduled for the Saturday following the ribbon cutting. A general announcement would be sent to all staff in September and invitations to area residents mailed at the same time. Tours of the facility would also be offered on that day. As the Open House would be a mid -day event, we would propose refreshments along the lines of hot dogs, popcorn and lemonade.
