a) Summer Student Safety Picnic on July 20, 2011
The Annual Summer Student Safety Picnic will be held on Wednesday, July 20,
2011 from 11:45 a. m. to 1:15 p.m. in the garden /lawn area next to the Household
Hazardous Waste Collection Facility. It is a triple staff day for Plant Operations so
we are hoping to have a good number of attendees. Staff will be grilling
hamburgers, turkey burgers, boca burgers, and hot dogs. The menu includes
salads, chips, dessert and drinks. Board members are cordially invited to attend.
b) Staff to Attend Water Environment Federation Technical
Exhibition and Conference in Los Angeles from October
15 through October 19, 2011
The 84th Annual Water Environmental Federation Technical Exhibition and
Conference ( WEFTEC) will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center
from Saturday, October 15 through Wednesday, October 19, 2011. Up to 18
employees from various divisions are scheduled to attend the full conference.
There are 5 employees scheduled to attend the one -day equipment show only.
WEFTEC is the premiere water quality conference and a west coast venue
provides an excellent opportunity to gather state -of- the -art information at a good
price. This, in addition to having a number of employees who will be assuming
new duties and would benefit from state -of- the -art training, is the basis for this
request. Attendees have the opportunity to participate in workshops, technical
sessions, facility tours, and view exhibitions. There is a discount on registration if
completed before Friday, July 15, 2011.

Staff To Attend Out -of -State Conference
c) Margaret Orr to Attend National Clean Water Agencies'
Summer Conference from July 19 through July 22, 2011 in
Chicago, Illinois
Director of Plant Operations Margaret Orr will attend the National Association of
Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) 2011 Summer Conference from Tuesday, July
19, 2011, through Friday, July 22, 2011 in Chicago, Illinois. Margaret will accept
the Platinum Peak Performance Award for thirteen years of consecutive 100%
NPDES permit compliance on behalf of the District. Margaret will also attend the
Biosolids Management Committee and the Legal Affairs Committee meetings
relating to NACWA's legal challenges with the Environmental Protection
Agencies standards for sewage sludge incinerators and the definition of solid
waste for which the District has provided funding. Other topics on the conference
agenda include sessions on Multi - Generational Workforce, Perspectives on
Creating a First -Class Utility, Future Leaders and Management Approaches as
well as various committee meetings.
