Staff Update
h) The Passing of CSO Maintenance Crew Leader
Ron Galloway Jr.
Ron Galloway Jr., a Maintenance Crew Leader in Collection Systems, passed
away this morning from a long term illness. Mr. Galloway Jr. is a second
generation District employee; his dad, Ron Galloway Sr., worked as a survey
party chief for many years. Mr. Galloway Jr. started with the District in June of
1981 as summer help and was hired as a Utility Worker in the plant in October of
1981. He joined collection systems in July of 1984. Mr. Galloway Jr. was the
collection systems designated easement walker and was the primary trainer on
rodding vehicles. Mr. Galloway Jr. is survived by his two sons and one daughter.
Information/Coordination with Other Agencies
i) Iron House Sanitary District Fills Board Vacancy
The Iron House Sanitary District (ISD) Board appointed Dave Contreras, former
General Manager of Mountain View Sanitary District, to fill the vacancy on their
Board at their regular meeting on Tuesday, May 17, 2011. There were ten (10)
applicants, nine (9) of whom were interviewed.
j) Source Control /Pollution Prevention Service Agreement
Executed Between the District and Mountain View Sanitary
District
The Source Control /Pollution Prevention service agreement between the District
and Mountain View Sanitary District (MVSD) was fully executed on May 12,
2011. This agreement extends the current agreement for two years with an
option to extend for two more years (through June 30, 2015) with the signatures
of each District's General Manager. MVSD has requested additional District
support to prepare the Annual Pollution Prevention Report starting with the report
that will be due in August 2011 which is included in this extension. The
agreement provides for full cost recovery for the District's services including
using the applicable overhead multiplier used to set the District's rates and
charges. MVSD staff stated that District staff received very positive feedback
from the MVSD Board during the discussion of the agreement extension.

k) Public Bidding on Thursday, June 9, 2011 for Walnut Creek
Sewer Renovations (Phase 8), District Project 5992
The Walnut Creek Sewer Renovation (Phase 8) Project is part of the Collection
System Renovation Program. The project will consist of installing, replacing, and
rehabilitating approximately 10,000 feet of 6- to 12 -inch sewer pipe. The
construction will take place within neighborhood streets and property easements
in the county area around Walnut Creek. The sewer pipe work will involve open
cut and pipe bursting construction methods.
This project will be advertised on May 20, and May 27, 2011. The bids will be
opened on June 9, 2011. The construction cost is currently estimated at
$1,700,000. More information will be presented when the Board is asked to
approve the construction contract on June 16, 2011.
