Di trict Administration BACKGROUND: Assembly Bill 2134 (attached), approved by Governor on June 28, 1980 and filed with the Secretary of State on June 29, 1980, increases the maximum compensation a board member may receive for attending meetings or other functions so authorized by the Board, from $50 to $75 per meeting or day's service, except in the case where the member also serves as an elected official on another local agency, in which case the maximum per meeting shall remain at $50, with the maximum paid meetings per month remaining at 4. CONSIDERATION: If the Board desires to increase the meeting compensation'for members, adopt a resolution increasing the amount and establishing the effective date. " " ' . , '(1) Existing law authorizes the board of directors of a county sanitation district to fix the amount of compensation of members of the board, not to exceed $50 for each meeting of the district board or for each day's service rendered as a member at the request of the ,board and not to exceed $200 in anyone month. This bill would increase such maximum compensation to $75 per meeting or per day, not to exceed $300 iil anyone month, except for a member of a district board who also serves as an elected official on the governing,. board ,of another local agency and receives compensation for such services. (2) Existing law provides for compensation of members of the board of directors of sanitary districts not to exceed $50 per day for each day's attendance at meetings of the board or for each day's service rendered at the request of the board, not exceeding 4 days in a calendar month. This bill would increase such maximum compensation to $75 per day, except for a member of a board who serves as an elected official on the governing board on another local agency and receives compensation for such service. The people of the State of California do enact as follows: SECTION 1. Section 4733 of the Health and Safety Code is amended to read: 4733. The district board may fix the amount of compensation per meeting to be paid each member of the board for services for each meeting attended by the member. However, except where a member of a district board also serves as an elected official on the governing board of another local agency and receives compensation for such service, the compensation shall not exceed seventy-five dollars ($75) for each meeting of the district board attended by the member or for each day's service rendered as a member by request of the board, nor shall the compensation of a member exceed three hundred dollars ($300) in anyone month, together with any expenses incident thereto. The compensation of a member of a 94 50 Ch. 269 -2,- district board who also serves as an elected official on the governing board of another local agency shall not exceed fifty dollars ($50) for each meeting of the district board attended by the member or for each day's service rendered as a member by request of the board, nor shall the compensation of such a member exceed two hundred dollars ($200) in anyone month, together with any expenses incident thereto. SEe. 2. Section 6489 of the Health and Safety Code is amended to read: 6489. Each of the members of the board shall receive compensation in an amount not to exceed seventy-five dollars ($75) per day for each day's attendance at meetings of the board or for each day's service rendered as a director by request of the board, not exceeding a total of four days in any calendar month, together with any expenses incident thereto. However, where a member of a board also serves as an elected official on the governing board on another local agency and receives compensation for such service, compensation shall not exceed fifty dollars ($50) per day for each day's attendance at meetings of the board or for each day's service rendered as a director by request of the board, not exceeding a total of four days in any calendar month, together with any expenses incident thereto. The secretary of the sanitary board shall receive compensation to be set by the sanitary district board, which compensation shall be in lieu of any other compensation to which he may be entitled by reason of attendance at the meeting or meetings of the sanitary board.
